What’s new in this release?

  • ISC DHCP server (v. 4.3.1).
  • NOTE: The old Sun DHCP server is still available, but may be removed from a future OmniOS release. The ISC DHCP server is now in place alongside the old Sun one to aid with any transitions
  • mandoc support for our man pages
  • ZFS improvements:
  • ZFS filesystem and snapshot limits
  • ZFS metadata perfomance improvement (tunable, see zfs(1M) for details)
  • zdb(1M) can now dump all metadata
  • Embedded-data block pointers (“zero block compression”)
  • Better behavior in the face of full or nearly-full pools
  • Better-behaved zfs rename and zfs create when not sharing the datasets
  • Improved DKIOCFREE (used by iSCSI UNMAP) performance for large datasets
  • NFS improvements:
  • rpcbind(1M) and mountd(1M) now use libumem, for better performance under load
  • Device improvements:
  • Additional cpqary3(7D) devices for newer SmartArray cards
  • mpt_sas(7D) now supports LSI 3008 12G SAS chipsets
  • Less (ab)use of ddi_get_time() which will increase reliability in the face of changing wallclock time
  • Packages are now built with pkgdepend(1)
  • Networking improvements:
  • tcp_strong_iss now defaults to 2 (use RFC 6528 initial sequence numbers by default)
  • ipsec_policy_log_interval now defaults to 0 (no console logging of IPsec failures)
  • Closed localhost connections spend less time in TIME_WAIT state
  • Zones improvements:
  • Virtualized load average for zones
  • Per-zone CPU kstats
  • intra-node/inter-zone packets now deliver SIGPOLL to the reciever
